Lockdown can’t stop your retirement dreams

Share This Post

January has always been the month to try and make New Year’s Resolutions, but this year is very different.

As we start in 2021, we find ourselves in another national lockdown and have restricted movements. Of course, that doesn’t mean we cannot think about our future retirement lifestyle and plan towards it.

Retirement isn’t just about the money – arguably, more important to retirement choices are your health and wellbeing, being able to do the things you enjoy doing, and affordability of the lifestyle you have worked so hard to achieve throughout your career.

We have seen that many people have made decisions about retirement due to their experience of being on ‘furlough’ last year and having a ‘taste for retired life’; albeit in and out of lockdowns.
The best position of all is to know when you can afford to retire and then decide for yourself when the time is right.

Although I believe we have a challenging few months ahead, we will get through this pandemic, and the vaccine rollout will gather momentum to end the social and economic impact of this horrible virus.  In the meantime, there is no harm in pondering these essential questions;

What kind of life would you like to live in retirement?

On how much will you need to live?

What happens if you fall sick or have a long term illness; would you be able to afford to have care and support if necessary?

Will you have to look after an elderly parent or loved one?

Have you a plan for your retirement and if not, why not?

If any of these questions resonate with you, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your financial planning goals and find out if my services can help you. Please click here to schedule a discovery call using my online calendar; this call can be over the telephone or via Zoom, and is at my expense and without any obligation.

I look forward to chatting with you soon.

For clients that do not require formal advice but need some time to discuss a situation or receive some guidance I offer my time via a 30-minute call for £75 or a 60-minute call for £175.

The cost of the call is payable at the time of booking.  Many clients have said these calls are useful to have time to discuss their situations and be guided to other services or other professionals for legal advice or care provision because not all clients need formal financial advice but they appreciate a professional to discuss their situation with.
